Homes and Communities Agency launches today
I am delighted to inform you that today sees the launch of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as England's single housing and regeneration body. Our remit is simple; to create opportunity for people to live, work and enjoy life in places that they desire and that they can afford.
The HCA brings together all the activities of English Partnerships and the Academy for Sustainable Communities, the investment functions of the Housing Corporation and the delivery responsibility of most of CLG's growth and renewal programmes.
The new agency will be much greater than the sum of its parts. Working closely with our stakeholders in the regions, we will combine land and investment to address our growth, renewal, affordability and sustainability needs, right at the local level.
Throughout our entire operation, we will champion and enforce rigorous design and quality standards. This will ensure the creation of high quality homes in safe and attractive surroundings, well-served by infrastructure, amenities and open green space. We will help generate thriving communities and affordable homes across the country.
Hitting the ground running
This is an exciting and challenging time for any of us operating in this industry today and now that the new agency is underway, we have four very clear priorities:
-
Ensuring the ongoing delivery of existing projects and programmes
-
Working with our partners in government and in the industry to develop a successful response to the credit crunch
-
Transforming the organisation and bedding in our new ways of working
-
Introducing and developing the Single Conversation, the HCA's new business model
We want to work with our stakeholders very closely to develop successful housing and regeneration strategies in every English region and we look forward to talking to you in the coming weeks and months about developing the Single Conversation in your area.
Today sees the launch of our website homesandcommunities.co.uk where you can find out more about the HCA and our work in your area. Please also ensure you subscribe to the email newsletter to receive regular updates.
Best wishes
Sir Bob Kerslake
