Sustainable Community Strategies (SCS)

Three LSPs are mainly Rural, namely North Yorks (which includes its seven districts ), East Yorks and North Lincs.  Five have more than 15% rural residents/areas,  Barnsley, Wakefield, Calderdale, York and Doncaster.  Only two can be considered totally urban, Hull and Sheffield.  Full details here

There is some guidance on ensuring rural is taken into account given on the Commission for Rural Communities website www.ruralcommunities.gov.uk under Publications titled ‘Notes for Local/Regional discussion on rural proofing of LAAs’. There is also a section on Rural Proofing history.

Defra's National Indicator, Sustainable Community Strategies (SCS).  We have received some other guidance.  It repeats some of our references but lays out the Defra indicators specifically.

There is also some guidance on the SCS which will be the master reference for the LAA.  You will find the newly updated SCS on some of  the LSP websites for example North Yorks are inviting comments.
